Tomb Raider is a series of games which dates back to the mid-90s. Lara Croft's adventures have been created by several different producers over the years. Shadow of the Tomb Raider, like its two predecessors, was produced by Edios Montréal studio, which has on its account such games as the Deus Ex series or the latest version of the Thief series.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider tells the story which is set on the timeline exactly after the events presented in Rise of the Tomb Raider. When Miss Croft goes to South America she has to uncover the secrets of a research conducted by her father and the Order of the Trinity. She will travel across the ruins of ancient civilizations such as the Mayans or Aztecs. The story presented in this part is more mature than in its predecessors. Authors wanted to present the main character - Lara Croft - as an increasingly experienced traveler by, among other things, trying to face the consequences of the decisions we made.
The game does not introduce many changes in the mechanics compared to previous parts of the game. The gameplay still works in the TPP perspective. The creators decided to change the proportions between the elements of the game. The main element is now the exploration of tombs or ruins, although fights still play an important role here.
When traveling through forgotten temples or solving puzzles, you should be careful as there are swarms of deadly traps. The jungle in which the story unfolds is inhabited by wild animals which allows Lara to develop her abilities to survive.
In time, the heroine begins to use the gifts of the wild in her own favor, using for example makeshift mud camouflage or setting traps made of lianas. We can find not only weapons but also a rope with grappling hook and ice axes in Lara’s equipment. Those items will make exploration much easier.
The game, despite the lack of changes in the graphic design, collects positive reviews both fromplayer and the critics.
